Do you ever wish you could shave your head?

Imagine never having to worry about brushing or styling, and how nice and cool you would feel in the summer heat. While some of us aren’t quite ready to have a 2007 Britney moment, there is a less daring option.

The Infamous Undercut

The undercut has been around for a while, a notable relic of teen rebellion that has more recently been transformed into a stylish option for young adults. It offers you some of the relief from heavy, suffocating hair, without the full commitment to the Amber Rose look. There are several options, but I have two clients that come to mind when I think of stylish undercuts.

Meet Ashley

She came to me with hair that fell just past her collarbones. It was so thick that I had to break it into sections just to brush through it. When I asked her what she wanted to do with her haircut, she used her fingers to section her hair right above her ears, and said she wanted everything below that line shaved. She told me that her hair was so heavy that it gave her headaches and that it was insufferable in the summertime. She also wanted to cut the rest of her hair into a bob so that she wouldn’t have to put it up for work, thus keeping her undercut from being revealed. The look of relief on her face when I showed her the finished product was priceless, and she has been loving it ever since!

Meet Kim

The second is my girl Kim, who came to me a couple of years ago on a whim, long, dark hair cascading down her back. Similar to Ashley, Kim’s hair is incredibly thick, and she had had enough. She decided she wanted to shave one side and color it something fun, and though I think we were both nervous at that first appointment, she loved it and we’ve done several fun colors over the years. Again, this is a great option because if Kim needed to cover her undercut, she could part her hair down the middle and no one would be the wiser.

Final Thoughts

So, although you may not ever be ready to go full cue-ball, why not get a taste of that freedom that you can easily hide from your boss while still being able to feel the summer breeze on your neck? The best of both worlds!
