My fellow Americans, may I remind you that we all have one thing in common right now. Whether you’re in Orlando or Seattle, whether you’re red or blue, we can all agree that the current events are very stressful. We’re merely living out a chapter in our future children’s history books, and the only way out is through. I’m not here to tell you all what to think or who to vote for (this article was written before November 3rd, 2020). I’m just the friendly neighborhood hairdresser that wants to remind you that stress takes a tremendous toll on your health. After you’ve finished reading this article, I encourage you all to turn off the noise and take a few moments to take care of yourself. Let’s come together to cure our election induced stress.

My favorite thing to do when the world feels too loud is to set the mood for a hot bath or shower. I like to dim the lights, spark up a few candles, and throw on a lo-fi remix. My favorite is this retro one I found on youtube a few months ago.

While I wait for my water to heat up, I like to prepare by doing a couple of hair treatments. I put my hair through a lot! Between my hair color and my curling iron, my hair can start to show some wear and tear when I neglect it.

So, first, I’ll start with a treatment from the Olaplex system. Olaplex recently came out with No.0; a primer meant to be used alongside No.3 for max repair. I apply No.0 on my dry mids and ends, comb it through, wait 10 minutes, then apply No.3 on top of No.0, comb it through, and leave it on another 10 minutes. According to the scientists at Olaplex, this treatment can give you 68% more repair and 3x stronger hair! It’s the real deal.

Next, I’ll tackle my roots! TMI, but when I get stressed, typically, my seborrheic dermatitis flares up. This results in some gnarly build up on my scalp. (I know, don’t look at me like that!) If my roots are still dry, I’ll bust out the Scalp Detox from Bumble and Bumble. All you have to do is section your hair, shoot the foam directly at your problem areas, and leave it on for a few minutes before hopping in the shower. It has micellar water in it, and when you apply it, it gets icy and fizzes. The way I usually describe it to my clients is that it feels like cold pop rocks on your scalp. It’s strange, but feels so good!

You all know what to do next! Lather, rinse, repeat. Take your time shampooing the dirt out of your scalp and conditioning the dryness out of your ends. Maybe get crazy with a body scrub or put some essential oils in your bathwater.

This act of self-care is for you. Close your eyes, take a deep breath, and count to ten. We’ll get to chapter 2021 soon!
