Orlando is often defined as a “little big city,” and as such, often tries to keep up with its higher populous counterparts (i.e. the Lime and Bird scooters that seemingly came out of nowhere and are now a standard). As part of an initiative from The City of Orlando, several businesses within city limits will receive assistance in the form of grants to locate, expand, or redevelop.

Through the years, the buildings on North Mills Avenue have seen many businesses come and go. For example, the building next door to where our salon is now located was once home to Bill Baer’s Electronics, the legacy of which is maintained by the bear mosaic mural still present on the building, as well as several large taxidermied polar bears, housed now by the Orange County Regional History Center (yeah, seriously). Even the building that has been home to J. Bauman Salon for more than a decade has history, and has undergone several transformations in its time.

That being said, our location is no stranger to evolution, and with help from The City of Orlando, we intend to keep evolving into the future. So we, along with our neighbors at Florida Fitness Concepts, will be redeveloping our exterior signage and façade to better reflect our modern branding, as well as to become a more recognizable landmark of the Mills50 District.

This, along with updated signage on the side of the building, which will be more visible from the street, will help J. Bauman Salon maintain its place as a staple in our community, and propel us into the future; where The City Beautiful is more beautiful than ever.

After several months of construction, these exterior renovations are complete; and what a difference!

As a business that strives to never stop growing to serve our clientele and community, we’re thrilled with the results of these updates, and recognize that we couldn’t have done it without the support of The City of Orlando. In that spirit, not only will we continue to improve our business in every aspect, but we have opened our second location to better serve the residents of South Downtown (SoDo), The Milk District, and The Hourglass District; called J.
