Ah, high school, a formative time in any person’s life; one that will decide what you probably SHOULDN’T do with your hair and makeup for the rest of your life. But, hey, you’ll never know what works if you don’t experiment a bit, and high school is the perfect, albeit sometimes a bit too honest, focus group on which to test all of your wildest fashion ideas on. Additionally, Generation Z is known to be an experimental, opinionated, and trendsetting group; so it’s not surprising that you (or the Gen Z student in your life) want to be get an A+ in style on the first day of school, and beyond. So, without further ado, here are some hair, makeup, and fashion trends that I predict will take over this school year.
1. Sleek, Straight, & Parted Down The Middle
This look was a go-to in the 90s and is back to being a staple for high school students today. The simplicity of a middle part is classic, and brings attention to the symmetry of facial features. Not to mention, this is an easy-to-throw-together look for when you hit snooze a couple more times than you probably should’ve.
2. Loud Prints & Oversized
Gen Z doesn’t shy away from making a statement, and that’s exactly why loud prints on oversized garments are perfect for the upcoming school year. Comfortable yet bold, oversized tee shirts and hoodies are always in dress-code.
3. Embracing Natural Texture
Listen, it’s not 2003 anymore, there’s no need to spend hours grueling over your flat-iron when you should be nourishing your natural texture. That’s why, this school year, investing in products to help you control the texture, rather than trying to eradicate it, is in.

4. Natural Glow With Strong Brows
Cake-face will always have a time and a place, but this school year is all about enhancing natural beauty. Dewy skin, glossy lips, and full brows are all you need to look your best, which is more good news for those who prefer to sleep in.
5. 80s & 90s Inspired Hair Accessories
Barettes, scrunchies, beads, clips?! You name a hair acessory from the 80s or 90s, and I’d venture to bet that it’s back in style. These touches can add style to any look, and are great for days when all you can muster is a ponytail.
Final Thoughts
Take these last couple of weeks of Summer to relax, assured that being fashionable this upcoming year isn’t too far out of reach. Most importantly: make sure every choice you make, in style and otherwise, is authentic to you; and you’ll always be in good taste.
